AAI nomination for Ciara
Congratulations to Ciara Mageean who has been nominated once again for the Athletics Ireland Junior Athlete of the Year award. The awards will be presented at a black tie dinner in the Crown Plaza Hotel, Santry on 12 November.
Ciara of course won this title in 2010 after her World Junior silver medal and will be a strong contender again after her European Junior silver medal and Irish Junior record over 1500m in 2011. However she is up against some strong competition as there were a number of strong performances by Irish junior athletes this season, but everyone at City of Lisburn AC wishes her well for the 12 November.
Primary Schools XC league win for Kate
Another Lisburn distance running star is young Kate Gourley who is the reigning champion of the NI primary schools cross country challenge. She won last year’s series after dominating the qualifying rounds and final while still a year young. As expected she had a straightforward win in the first Co Antrim round of the races this year, winning last Thursday’s 1 km race by over 20 seconds.
Behind her there were a couple more more good performances from Lisburn club-mates. Olivia Neill was 4th in 4:10 and Olivia Savage 6th in 4:14. There were nearly 80 runners in the race.
The boys’ race had an even bigger field and Ben Ritchie was 13th here.
