Ciara smashes PB at IMC meet

There were many good performances amongst a great night’s athletics at the IMC meet at the MPT last night, but one of the highlights was Ciara Mageean’s excellent 800m PB of 2:02.31. Running with the men in the C race she took almost a second off her previous fastest from Santry last month. This was a world class performance for a junior athlete who goes from strength to strength, showing here great speed after her recent medal over the metric mile at the European Juniors. In fact it ranks her No 7 in the world this year in the Under 20 global lists and is the fastest by any N. Ireland athlete for 13 years!
Elsewhere Jonny Whan went in the 1500m and with a time of 4:38.78 was frustratingly just outside his previous best of 4:38.7 (hand) from the Edwards and Co meet in late June.
A number of invitational field events were included in the programme, which featured a win for Anna McIlmoyle in the high jump with 1.55m.
