It was a one, two, for City of Lisburn AC girls at the Civil Service Cross-country Races at Parliament grounds Stormont. Rachel Gibson indicated a return to form with a resounding victory, leading the field from start to finish over the 3000m course closely followed by training partner Caroline Brown. Jenny Moore who, at the Ulster Schools dropped out due to a respiratory problem, started steadily and progressed through the field to finish ninth, indicating her fitness levels are improving.
In the boys U17 race, run concurrently with the girls 3000m, Stuart Brown had a consistent run and battled well within the leading pack to finish third. Ross Griffiths, a new member to City of Lisburn, aged fifteen, showed promise with a fine run in his first cross-country race finishing midfield in 11th place.
Chris Madden, just recently turned seventeen, completed his first run over five miles in the men?s senior in what turned out to be a spectacular performance. Chris went out with the leaders and moved away from the rest of field to finish in a stunning fifth position. Ian Johnston also a new senior member to City of Lisburn and first time running competitively, acquitted himself well and truly enjoyed the experience, finishing midfield in 18th place.
