Ormeau Park was the venue today for the Seeley Cup, which once again proved itself the top 10k in N. Ireland in terms of quality. There were close to 1000 entries with athletes enjoying kind and unseasonably mild conditions. There were three PB’s recorded from the five City of Lisburn athletes running.
Dave Lonnen was first home of the Lisburn squad in 91st place with 37:26 after running almost identical splits. Declan Morgan went through 5k in 19:44 and held on well in the second half to finish in 39:54, dipping under 40 minutes for the first time ever to leave him absolutely delighted.
With Judith Lowry not quite over a recent illness and withdrawing, Heather McLarnon was best of the Lisburn ladies in 43:43. Jonathan Fay has been revising his 5k PB on a regular basis at the parkruns recently and beat his 10k PB here today with 45:13. Sharon Kelly took time out of her London Marathon build-up to run a very solid 48:48 on her debut over the distance.
Meanwhile the parkrun fields were well down due to the big race at Ormeau Park today but Jonny McWhinney improved for the third successive week at Victoria Park to run 23:03, shaving one second off his previous best at this course.
