Irish Long Jump title for Roseanna at Magherafelt

Meadowbank Arena, Magherafelt was the venue this weekend for some of the All-Ireland juvenile indoor championships (with the remaining age-groups and events in Nenagh in two weeks time). A number of City of Lisburn athletes had qualified via the recent NI and Ulster championships, although most would find medals at this level harder to come by with the obvious step-up in standards across the programme.
Pride of place goes to Roseanna McGuckian who became Irish U15 Indoor Long Jump champion with a great 5.00m PB. This jump would have gained her a medal in the boys’ event in the same age-group! Roseanna was also 8th in 60m in 8.36s, although a repeat of her Odyssey performance would have had her in the mix for another medal.
Anna McImoyle was very close to bringing home two All-Ireland medals. She took a great silver in the U16 high jump in 1.55m and just missed out with 4th place in the 60m hurdles, so another good weekend’s work by the reliable Anna. Ben Fisher took home three U14 medals from the NI champs but had to settle for two 7th places here in the Long Jump and 60m final, although he will be frustrated that at his best he could have made it onto the podium for the long jump.
Therese Hilman has made a major breakthrough in the hurdles recently with her U13 NI and Ulster title and took another step forward here with a new PB of 10.98s which placed her 7th in these All-Irelands. Aoibhin McManus placed 5th in the U16 long jump with 4.74m and was also 10th in the shot. Finally, Adam Hill took 7th in the U18 60m hurdles final in 9.38m
Congratulations to Roseanna and Anna on their All-Ireland medals!
