Irish Senior Indoors 19/20 Feb

The weekend saw a number of City of Lisburn athletes compete in the Irish Senior Indoor championships in the Odyssey Arena. Despite our defending champion Kelly McNiece being out injured Lisburn still fielded two athletes in the women’s 1500m. Ciara Mageean had to settle for bronze after a great battle at the front with European Indoor medal prospect Mary Cullen, while Rachel Gibson set an indoor PB of 4:58 with a brave run for 5th. Hopefully the Irish selectors will confirm Ciara for the Paris Euro Indoor champs as she has a proven record of good performances at major championships so far in her career.
Linzi Herron was 6th in the long jump with 5.51m while Laura McBurney set an indoor PB of 7.97s in the 60m heats. Kirsty Moffet won a juvenile title in 2010 over 200m and this year stepped up to the Senior competition, running 28.06s in her heat.
Brendan Murphy had a great run in the B 400m final, with a time of 50.69s for 2nd place to record the fastest 400m by a N. Ireland athlete over the weekend.
