Irish title for Aoibhin at Tullamore
Mon 5 July 2010--admin
A squad of City of Lisburn young athletes were in Tullamore for two days of quality competition over the weekend at the Irish Juvenile championships. A number of medals were won but pride of place goes to Aoibhin McManus who is the Irish U15 long jump champion.
After opening with two no-jumps she produced an excellent 5.01m in round 3 when under pressure, to move into the lead. She later extended her lead to 5.13m (PB) for a comfortable victory which included a marginal foul of close to 5.30m.
Jane Atkinson had success in two events. She was narrowly beaten in the U14 75m hurdles where she ran a PB for silver of 11.44s into a headwind. In the high jump the showers ensured slippy conditions and below-par heights but her 1.35m took bronze. In the U15 girls high jump Anna McIlmoyle took silver with a great jump of 1.55m.
In the U17s, Laura McBurney’s 12.37s for 4th was just 0.1s outside the medals, while Adam Hill was 8th in the U17 high jump.
Well done to all athletes on a successful trip.
