Lagan Valley/Edwards & Co meet No.3 24 June
Sun 27 June 2010--admin
On a balmy Thursday evening at the MPT there was a large contingent of young City of Lisburn athletes competing in excellent conditions at the latest round of this series. Once again there were many strong performances from the Lisburn squad.
In the youngest age group (1999-2001) Kate Gourley was the star with 3 medals – silver in the 1200m plus bronze in the 100m and long jump, where Olivia Savage was unlucky to miss a medal in 4th place.
In the 1997-98 girls, in-form Natalja Ritchie produced her second shot PB in a week. She won this time with a huge 7.72m final round throw to extend her PB by almost half a metre, which would have been good enough for bronze at the Ulster Schools! In the same age-group it was a Lisburn 1-2 in the high jump with Jane Atkinson over 1.50m again to equal her PB ahead of Cara Burke.
Erin Quinn won the 1995-96 girls 100m in a routine 13.49s with Courtney Tate 4th in the same race. Erin also picked up an unexpected silver in the javelin, only 2 cms behind the winner, with Courtney 3rd. Rebecca Harvey was 5th in the 1500m in 5m 11 secs.
Well done to Francesca Brown who was first 1993-1994 in the open 1500m race in 5m 26secs.
In the youngest boys’ age group Thomas Quinn has a great run for silver in the 100m and was 4th in the long jump. Christopher Larmour was 4th in the 100m and 5th in the 1200m.
Lisburn athletes filled 3 of the first 4 places in the 1997-98 100m. Ben Fisher took gold, Zach Jordan took bronze with Luke Fitzhenry in 4th. Happily for Luke he won a medal with a 5m 05 secs run for silver in the 1500m. Sam Wallace took silver in the shot and Ben was 2nd in the high jump with 1.30m.
In the 1995-96 boys Josh Garnham won the 100m (12.25s) ahead of Kadhum Hasson and also took gold in the high jump.
Adam Hill was over 1.70m for the 2nd time in a week in the high jump which placed him 1st 1993-94 in the open high jump event to wrap up a very successful outing for the club.
