Lisburn & Banbridge Junior Sports 20 June
Wed 23 June 2010--admin
Sunday past saw around 60 children aged 6-13 from the City of Lisburn and Banbridge athletics clubs enjoy a fun competition at the Mary Peters Track in perfect conditions. All participants got the chance to run (sprint and endurance), long jump and shot putt (cricket ball for younger ones).
For many it was their first experience of an athletics competition and it all was about taking part. Some of the older children took advantage of the conditions to post some excellent performances.
In the age 10/11 age-group Lauren Rea was a convincing winner of the shot in an excellent 6.52m ahead of her training partner Jodie Savage who posted a PB of 5.30m.
The 12/13 age-group saw a shot PB for Lisburn’s Natalja Ritchie (7.23m) ahead of Kirsten Evans with a great 6.63m. Katie Larmour ran a 14.0s 100m and long jumped exactly 4 metres. Zoe Carruthers ran well when winning the 800 in 2m 35s.
12 year old Cameron McAteer showed he is a talent to look out for in the future by winning all 4 of his events including 13.2s for 100m, 4.35m long jump and a great 65s 400m.
Well done to Heather Martin and her team of helpers on the day for staging such a successful and enjoyable event.
