Musgrave Park XC
Tue 20 September 2011--admin
Saturday morning at Musgrave Park, Belfast saw a squad of City of Lisburn athletes compete with great success at the first cross country of the season in an event well run by Beechmount Harriers. Plenty of the young team headed home with trophies (first three) or medals (next five per race) to show for their efforts.
In the P5/P6 500m races, Olivia Neill had a great run for second place with Ben Gibson going one better and winning the boys race! In the P7 event over 1000m there were more Lisburn athletes in the prizes with Olivia Savage placing 4th ahead of Jemma Campbell in 8th while Ben Ritchie was 4th boy home.
The performance of the day was from Rebekah Douglas who has carried her track form through to the country, as she won the U13 girls 2000m race by the proverbial mile. Matthew Neill was another who has enjoyed a good season on the track and he finished a fine 2nd here in the U13 boys 2000m race.
Dominic Martin is more comfortable over 400m/800m but had an impressive endurance work-out here in the U17 4000m event where he was 4th. Finally, in the U17 girls 4k race Courtney Sloan – who starred recently in Birmingham at the UK Young Athletes League finals where she medalled in both middle distance events – had a super win here to kick off her winter’s racing.
Congratulations to coach Andrea, Team Manager Jo and all their squad on a successful morning.
