NI Masters T&F champs
Mon 29 August 2011--admin
There were good numbers of athletes from all over Ireland and even beyond competing at the NI Masters (over 35’s) track and field championships on Saturday in good conditions at the MPT. Paddy Crossan was probably the stand-out performer on the track. He won All-Ireland Masters titles the previous weekend at 200m and 400m and this time out added the N. Ireland M45 titles at the same distances. His 200m time at 24.63s was a SB while his 55.43s 400m time was only fractionally slower than Tullamore.
Jonny McWhinney contested all four throws in the M40 category, taking home a couple of bronzes for his efforts. An opening effort of 37.06m was good enough for 3rd in the javelin with a 24.83m SB in the hammer also taking bronze. Elsewhere his second best throw this year of 9.88m in the shot was just outside the medals in 4th and he was also 4th in the discus.
Perhaps a few more former athletes who are now parents or coaches at the club will be tempted to compete here next year….
