Power of Ten Review – Under 20’s

In the under 20 age-group there were again many performances of note by City of Lisburn AC athletes in 2011, which saw them ranked highly in NI.

Girls

Sprints/hurdles – Laura McBurney is at no. 2 in the lists over 100 m with her 12.91s win at the Team Trophy in July, while her 26.18s 200  the same day ranks her at no. 2 also.

Over 100 m hurdles Libby Rose is at no. 2 with her 16.66s at the Irish Schools with Karyn Dumigan’s 17.66s while winning the NI senior title ranking her 3rd.

Middle distance – At 800m the talented Ciara Mageean of course was the top local athlete with 2:02.3. At 1500m Ciara’s 4:07.45 Irish junior and NI senior record ranked her no 2 in the world at under 20 level!

Jumps – Karyn Dumigan was at no. 2 in the high jump with 1.50m at the multi-events. However, long jump was Lisburn’s best event on this category. Karyn is ranked no. 1 with 5.03m, Libby no. 2 with 5.00m and Hollie Johnston no. 3 with 4.98m.

At triple jump Hollie’s 10.85m when winning the NI senior title ranks her no. 1 with Karyn featuring at no. 6 with 9.59 m at the Team Trophy.

Throws – At shot Hollie Johnston’s suprise throw of 9.33m to win the Team Trophy is an omission from the lists but was good enough to place her at no. 2. Libby was at no. 4 with 9.01m from the indoor season with an 8.34 m PB for Kathryn Wallace ranking her 6th. Discus saw Caris Greenwood rank no. 1 in NI with her 36.38m at the Irish Schools.

At javelin Hollie was at no. 2 with her 26.93m from the Team Trophy, while Sylvia Rose ranks no. 5 with her 25.11 m from the Ulster Schools. In hammer Kathryn is at no. 2 after a super season which saw her extend her PB to 37.67m.

Multi events – Karyn’s score of 2889 when winning the NI junior heptathlon title ranks her no. 1.

Boys 

Several Lisburn boys feature well in the field events. Adam Hill’s all round jumping ability saw him rank no. 2 at high jump with 1.78m, no. 7 At long jump with 6.00m as well as no. 6 at triple jump with 12.11m.

In the throws James Megarity’s monster throw of 13.54m at the NI champs saw him rank no. 1 at shot. At discus Tom Jess threw 35.64m with the 1.75k implement for no. 3 on the under 20 lists but he did throw some 10 metres further at under 18 level which saw him in the mix for selection for the Commonwealth Youth Games.
