Roseanna and Tom in the medals at Tullamore

Saturday was day three of the All-Ireland juvenile track and field finals at Tullamore, where a squad of City of Lisburn athletes competed with the cream of the young athletic talent on the island of Ireland in search of more medals.
Conditions were good but the standard was very high as always at these championships with medals proving hard to come by. Congratulations therefore to Roseanna McGuckian and Tom Jess who both brought home silvers.
Roseanna added U15 200m silver to her long jump bronze with a fantastic run which saw her dip below 26 secs for the first time with a legal 25.90s ( wind +0.1). Tom didn’t quite manage a PB in the U18 discus but his 43.41m effort was enough for a clear second place and another medal for Tom’s collection in a productive season.
The U15 girls’ shot was won with a huge 12.85m record, with our own Natalja Ritchie in 9th with 8.27m and Aoife Doherty who has improved with every outing this year managing a PB of 8.03m in 11th. Maddie Bowyer ran a time of 5:12 to place 10th in the U14 1500m. Kathryn Wallace placed 6th in the U18 shot and Katie Larmour unfortunately missed out on a place in the final of the U15 200m.
So well done to Tom and Roseanna. That meant a total of 9 individual medals this year at these championships by City of Lisburn athletes compared to 6 in 2010 – a step forward but definitely a reminder to all the athletes of the hard work necessary to ensure success at this level!
