Summary of Multi-events for 2013
Tue 10 December 2013--admin
This year City of Lisburn Athletes competed in the Northern Ireland and Irish Combined events championships as well as the Ulster and Irish schools.
The year began with 4 of our athletes heading to the Irish Juvenile Indoors Championships in Athlone, with Matthew Dalton winning the U16 boys event.
In August we had 14 athletes participating in the NI and Ulster Multi-event Championships with 8 medals won.
Our 3 U13 athletes occupied 3rd to 5th in their event with Grace Hillman earning the bronze medal. Both Holly and Erin are still eligible for this age group next year. Our only U13 boy was Adam Burke who finished 4th in his first ever competition.
Lisburn accounted for half the field and all the medals in the U15 girls event. Of our 5 athletes Alix Galbraith, Kate Farelly and Sarah Woods performed best winning Gold , Silver and Bronze respectively.
Unfortunately we had no entrants in the U15 Boys event.
In the older categories both Caitlin Rose and Cara Burke performed well with Caitlin earning the Silver Medal. Sister Libby went one better in the U20s event to become Ulster Champion despite having to nip away to work during the event. Maybe she should have been awarded the gold in the Octathlon?
3 Lisburn boys contested the U17 event with Ciaran Barnes earning Silver. Mark Burton who has now joined us was awarded Bronze.
We had no male entrants in the older category as Christian Robinson was in Tullamore winning the Irish Combined Event and setting a new Irish U18s record in the process.
Many of our athletes also competed successfully in the schools event.
Alix was the best of our 5 girls in the Junior age group with her Silver Medal performance.
Both our U17 girls medalled in the Intermediates with Cara pipping Caitlin to the Silver this time.
Of our 4 boys Christian romped away with the Intermediate competition with Jake Porter taking Silver.
Adam Hill won gold in the Senior event ahead of brother Jonny in Silver.
The Irish Schools event was held indoors for the first time this year. Some of our athletes were not available but of the 3 boys who competed, Jonny won the Senior event and Christian was 4 points short of being Intermediate Chanpion and had to settle for Silver.
Jake was unable to complete the event because of injury.
