U14 and U15 N.I. and Ulster Championships 8th June 2014

Sunday’s weather was about as different to Saturday’s as you could have hoped for but the quality of the performances by our young athletes continued in the same vein.
Our U14 girls got us off to a great start with 5 of them running in the 80m sprint including debutants Cordelia and Talia who acquitted themselves well despite their lack of experience of this level of competition. In the final “Old Hands” at this game Shannon, who won her heat, Aimee and AnnaM all reached the final where AnnaM lifted the gold in 10.68s with Aimee 3rd in 11.14s.
Aimee took another bronze in the 200m behind Grace who won gold in 27.73 with Georgia and Cordelia also running well.
Both our U14 hurdlers, Grace (13.24s) and Erin (13.84s in her debut over this distance) made it through their heats to reach the final but unfortunately neither were able to run as well in that race.
Erin was in action again in the high jump where she finished 5th behind AnnaM who took her second gold of the day in this event.
We had 5 long jumpers in action in a field of 39 athletes. Shannon was the top performer here with her excellent 4.53m jump for Silver with Aimee (9th 4.13m) , Cordelia and Talia all tackled this event for the first time. Erin was also involved and her 4.02m jump left her a creditable 11th.
OliviaS threw the hammer 19.80m for Silver.
The U14 boys were also in action with JackT reaching the final of the 100m before taking an excellent 3rd (4.40m) in the long jump ahead of team mate AdamB 4th (4.29m). Adam also tackled the high jump clearing 1.30m.
Three of our U15 girls ran the 100m with AnnaMcK in the toughest heat while Eve and Emilia both made the final. Emilia took 4th in 13.66s with Eve not able to reproduce the blistering run of 13.54s from her heat.
Emilia went one better in the 200m lifting the bronze medal in 28.68s.
AnnaS, who was just returning from the injury which caused her to miss the Ulster Schools, ran well to reach the hurdle final in 13.64s but the disruption to her training was too much for her to show her full potential in either that final or the High jump. Just too soon.
SarahF ran well in the 800m finishing 8th in 2.34.62.
Bradley tackled 3 events in the U15 boys category and lifted golds in the long jump (5.33m PB) and 250m Hurdles in his first outing in this event. On a less hectic day he may even have bettered his excellent 25.11s run for 3rd in the 200m but 2 golds and a bronze is a superb medal haul.
ChrisL was another of our U15s who took on 3 events finishing 8th in the 800m, 6th in the 200m and 4th in the long junp with an excellent PB of 5.02m. Team mate Sean finished that 800m race one place ahead of Chris for 7th.
Simon and Ethan entered 2 events each and medalled in 2 events each with Simon taking silver in the Long jump (5.27m) before taking the gold medal and title in the pole Vault with a clearance of 2.30m. Ethan took golds in both the 80m Hurdles, where he was well over a second ahead of his nearest challenger and high jump where his 1.60m leap was not bettered by any athete on the day.
Two of our U17s were also in action on Sunday in the 800m events with Maddie running a brilliant PB of 2.24.46 for silver in the girls’ race and Tom doing likewise with his PB run of 2.01.18 for silver also.
Another brilliant day for CoLAC!
