This year?s cross country event took place on a very cold and stormy Saturday morning with under foot conditions excellent. The first race ?Primary School Girls?, started on time and was well supported with 38 runners competing over 1000 metres. The girls race was won by Helen Gilmore of Cedar P.S, Lisburn?s girls competed well finishing together in 11th Sarah Jackson of Cranmore P.S, 12th Grace Hillman of St John Baptist and Madison Boyer in 13th of Finaghy P.S. A little bit further back Amy Edwards of Finaghy P.S finished in 27th place and Cara McGurnaghan of St Colmans, Lisburn in 37th.
The ?Primary School Boys? race over the same distance saw Enda Kelly-McCann of St Brides P.S battle at the front of the field and eventually finishing a superb 3rd place behind winner Crawford Walker of Cedar P.S. Matthew Neill, Stanmillis P.S finish a strong 19th with Patrick Campbell Good Sherpard close behind in 21st position.
Athletes born Year 97 & 98 both male and female competed together over the main one mile course. The senior ladies race, contested over three miles, a new category for Rachel Gibson now turned seventeen, saw Aileen Morrison of City of Derry move steadily away from the rest of the field to win by almost 40 seconds. Rachel fought well to finish in 7th place, which was a good performance considering Rachel favours the 800m on the track.
The final race, Senior Men including the vet categories, was over a distance of 4 miles. Stuart Brown on holiday from University in England was the first home for City of Lisburn in 22nd place followed by Shaun McGurnaghan (V45) in 41st showing good improvement in strength following his outing the previous at Greenmount event. Coach Eric Frizzell (V55) decided to run at the last minute and found the going difficult but managed to finish in 48th place, closely followed by Trevor Carruthers (V45) in his first cross-country race.
A special thanks to volunteers Ami Foster and Andrea Anderson who assisted with entries on race day, also to all club members who made the event a memorable one on the running calendar.
