Medals galore in Monaghan!

The big athletics event of the weekend was the N. Ireland and Ulster (Uneven) age-group cross-country championships in Scotstown, Co Monaghan and there were many successes amongst the City of Lisburn squad who made the long trip.
The very first race of the day saw a gold for Lisburn after a super run for 1st place from Kate Gourley who is the new N. Ireland and Ulster U11 cross-country champion! Her great run over the 1.5k course also helped Co Antrim to team silver.
The gold rush continued in the 2.5k U13 girls’ race with Madison Bowyer deservedly taking the title with a fine run and also leading Co. Antrim to team gold – a great day’s work by Madison. In the same race Caitlin Lyness ran well for 35th place, with Enda Kelly-McCann placing a very respectable 34th in the U13 boys’ race.
The U15 girls raced over 3.5k and Rebecca Harvey’s excellent cross-country season continued with a bronze here to go with her bronze from the recent Even age-group championships – the only club athlete to win individual medals at both. Zoe Carruthers was a mere one second behind Rebecca in 4th place but had the consolation of team silver alongside Rebecca as part of the Co Antrim squad as well as All-Ireland qualification.
Rachel Gibson was Lisburn’s sole representative in the Senior womens’ Novice race over 3.5k. After success on the track in the summer and on the roads recently at Runher she took a fine bronze here over the cross-country with a well paced run.
Well done to Heather Martin and all the athletes on their achievements in Scotstown.
