Ciara 10th in Delhi 1500m Final

Ciara Mageean should take pride from her run in this afternoon’s Commonwealth Games 1500m final, where she finished 10th in 4:10.85. Unlike in some events, the standard in middle-distance running in these Games is world class and Ciara’s second fastest ever run, just one second outside her N. Ireland record, was a very good performance in her senior championship debut.
The first lap was a modest 68.97s and at 2:16 at 800m the field was still bunched together. However at that point Olympic champion Nancy Lan’gat of Kenya and Scotland’s Steph Twell started to wind it up and the leading contenders started to pull away slightly. Ciara as ever dug in bravely and never stopped working the whole way to the line to finish 5 seconds behind the winner, the Kenyan Lan’gat.
Congratulations to Ciara on another great run which will provide her with more invaluable experience for the future and the many more championships she will surely contest. Everyone in the club is very proud of her.
