Everyone at City of Lisburn AC wishes the very best of luck to our two athletes who have now arrived in Delhi for the 2010 Commonwealth Games – our rising star Ciara Mageean (1500m) and experienced international Kelly McNeice (800m/1500m). We hope they are settling well into the athletes’ village and have found conditions to be better than the pictures broadcast recently! Everyone in the club and beyond will be willing them on to great performances including hopefully places in the finals of their events. The action for our girls starts next Thursday 07 Oct with the 1500m heats, (final on Friday), with the 800m heats on Saturday 09th Oct (final on Monday 11th).
Lisburn of course is not only represented at these Games within the squad of athletes themselves but also in the Coaching Team. The club’s David Reid is once again acting as Assistant Team Coach while the Head Coach is N. Ireland discus record-holder Jackie McKernan who as a Lisburn athlete herself was at no fewer than 4 Commonwealth Games, winning N. Ireland’s most recent athletics medal at this event wth silver in 1990 at Auckland.
