Not only were Lisburn athletes competing at Tullamore at the AAI league final and Masters championships this weekend, but a small squad of younger athletes travelled to Glasgow in search of some top class competition at the Scottish Junior championships. In a successful trip a number of medals and personal bests were achieved.
Anna McIlmoyle had a wonderful 1.63m PB for 2nd in the U15 high jump and also took silver in the hurdles. Jane Atkinson was 5th in the same hurdles race. Libby Rose came home with a bronze in the 300mH with a big PB dipping well under 47 secs for the first time and was also 4th in the sprint hurdles. Adam Hill had another 1.70m high jump which left him just outside the medals and also ran a 15.54s PB in the 100m hurdles.
Kathryn Wallace was a little below her recent good form in the shot and hammer, when finishing 7th and 6th. Rebecca Harvey just missed qualification for the final of the 1500m. Aoibhin McManus added Scottish long jump bronze to her Irish gold with a 4.95m jump. Erin Quinn made a breakthrough in the 200m breaking 27 secs for the first time in the 200m semi. Although her time in the final was slower than her semi she still did enough for bronze. She was also 5th in the 100m.
Overall a good performance by the City of Lisburn squad who all gained valuable experience at this level of competition.
