Lagan Valley Super 5 Meet 29 July

Thursday 29 July was the latest of the Lagan Valley / Edwards and Co Super 5 meets at the MPT with athletes enjoying calm and dry conditions. Once more there was a large number of Lisburn athletes competing across all age groups with many noteworthy performances as many competitors used the event to fine tune preparations before Saturday’s Young Athletes League final at Antrim.
In the youngest age group Grace Hillman had a great win in the 60m hurdles in 11.50s and also picked up a bronze in the 400m.
In the 97-98 age sprinter Katie Larmour won gold over the hurdles and Caitlin Rose and Madison Bowyer made it a Lisburn 1-2 in the javelin with both girls setting PBs of over 15m in a tight competition. Jane Atkinson was close to her PB when winning the high jump in 1.48m. Jane also stepped up to the 95-96 age group to make it a Lisburn sweep in the 75m hurdles, winning ahead of Anna McIlmoyle in 2nd and the holidaying Ruth McIlfatrick who took the bronze home to Glasgow.
Speedster Erin Quinn’s won the 95-96 300m in a PB of 44.90s. She picked up a javelin silver in the last of these meets and it was another throws silver this time in the shot with a great PB of 6.83m as she showed her all-round versatility. Afton Fitzhenry made her club debut a golden one with a win in the 95-96 hammer in a PB and also stepped up an age group to claim silver in the javelin behind team-mate Libby Rose who won with another 26 metre throw. Libby also won the sprint hurdles while in the hammer Kathryn Wallace took gold while consolidating recent technical changes to incorporate two turns in the circle.
Thomas Quinn looked promising over the hurdles when winning gold in the youngest boys age group and also beat a very large field to win the cricket ball with a fine throw of 31.67m. Christopher Larmour was just outside the medals in 4th in the hurdles. Bradley Mulholland completed the Lisburn success in this age group with a 400m silver.
In the 1997-98 boys Sam Wallace claimed hurdles silver just ahead of Ben Fisher in 3rd and the same boys reversed these positions in the high jump for another two medals.
Jonny McWhinney competed the club medal haul with silver in the Senior hammer. Well done to all athletes on another successful meet from this excellent series.
