Ulster Schools

Congratulations to all those City of Lisburn young athletes who represented themselves and their schools with distinction at a very hot and sunny Antrim on Saturday.
Highlights included Ciara Mageean who signed off her from a remarkable Ulster Schools athletics career by breaking her own 800m record with 2min 07 sec en route to another Senior Girls middle-distance double. That wasn’t the only double of the day as Laura McBurney ran superbly to win both Senior Girls sprints. In the same age group Sylvia Rose claimed bronze in the 400m hurdles. Hollie Johnston just missed out on a medal in the triple jump but had the consolation of a big PB with 10.90m.
In the Intermediate Girls, Libby Rose was supreme in the 80m hurdles, winning comfortably in 12.73 after an even quicker 12.3s semi, which sets her up well for the Irish Schools in two weeks time. Her school-mate Kathryn Wallace will join her for the trip to Tullamore after an excellent silver in the hammer on Friday night.
In the Junior Girls, Anna McIlmoyle was a star performer, winning the 75m hurdles in a fast 11.96, with club mate Jane Atkinson clinching silver and a Lisburn 1-2 in a superb 12.13s. Anna claimed silver herself in the high jump with an excellent 1.56m clearance. Lisburn sprinters picked up a couple of medals in this age group – an excellent bronze for Aoibhan McManus in the 200m and a silver in the 100m for Erin Quinn with another year to go in this age-group.
Jessica McMaster achieved silver in the minor girls long jump with a fine 4.36m. Zoe Carruthers ran well for 4th in the 800m final, with another good run by Katie Larmour in the 100m also for 4th. Natalya Ritchie had top 6 finishes in both minor long jump and shot.
In the Intermediate Boys, James Megarity was 4th with 12.16m in a high-class shot competition, while Adam Hill 6th in the 100m Hurdles final.
Good luck to all those who qualifed for the Irish Schools at Tullamore on 5th June.
