Last Thursday night it was Meet 3 in the Lagan Valley / Edwards and Co “Super 5” series, held in damp and cold conditions at the MPT. A number of City of Lisburn athletes were resting ahead of the Young Athletes League match on the Saturday but those present won no less than 24 medals. This was an improvement again from meet 2 with the majority of our medals coming from the throwers and hurdlers.
The throwers amassed a great total of 9 medals. There were golds in both the U11 javelin competitions from Josh Ritchie and Olivia Savage with Ben Ritchie taking silver behind his brother. The U13 girls took a clean sweep of the javelin medals – Alix Galbraith threw a super PB of over 16m for gold while Jodie Savage in 2nd and Lauren Rea in 3rd also threw PBs. In the U15 shot events Natalja Ritchie threw a new PB of 8.41m to take gold ahead of Kathyrn Case who was over 8 metres again for silver. Josh Jordan won the boys event with a throw of 7.95m.
The U13 girls high jump was another clean sweep for City of Lisburn. Phoebe Tan and Alix Galbraith re-newed their rivalry from the Ulster Schools and for the second consecutive week Phoebe took the honours on countback, with both girls clearing 1.30m, a good height in the rain. Sarah Woods made sure she didn’t go home empty-handed by claiming bronze with 1.15m. Robbie Marrs beat Cameron Kelly for gold in the U13 high jump on countback only after both also cleared 1.30m.
On the track the Lisburn hurdlers delivered 10 medals and several more PBs! Grace Hilman was 1st in the U11 hurdles with Olivia Savage in 3rd. Ben Gibson won the U11 boys’ hurdles while Connla Ward and James Wright were 4th and 5th. Therese Hilman claimed another medal in the U13 hurdles, taking bronze this time, with Phoebe Tan and Sarah Woods 4th and 5th. This was a great run by Phoebe showing her potential in her first ever hurdles race. Cameron Kelly and Robbie Marrs are great all-rounders and added to their medal collections with U13 hurdles silver and bronze respectively.
In the U15 hurdles events Sam Wallace took an excellent silver with Matthew Reid 3rd and Ben Fisher 5th, while in the girls’ event Megan Marrs was a clear winner while Jesssica McMaster in 3rd and Kathyrn Case 4th both recorded PBs.
Congratulations to all the junior club athletes on their successes at this meet.
