After a successful Young Athletes league match at Antrim last Saturday, many of the young City of Lisburn athletes returned with their schools for the District A (South Antrim and Belfast) district championships on Tuesday.
Qualifiers from the Minor Girls included Naimh Madden in 2nd place in the 100m in 14.7s plus Alix Galbraith who rose to the occasion with two fine PBs while winning the shot in 7.80m and high jump in 1.37.
The Junior Girls age group included successes for Katie Larmour who won the 100m in 13.7s plus Zoe Carruthers taking 2nd in the 1500m in 5:15. Jane Anderson was 2nd in the high jump in 1.38m and flew to a new PB of 11.9 secs to win the 75m hurdles ahead of club-mate Caitlin Rose who set a very respectable PB of 12.6s. Jessica McMaster took 2nd in the long jump in a 4.63m PB while another second-former Natalja Ritchie produced her second PB in the space of a few days to win the shot by 1cm with 8.35m.
Cameron Kelly qualified safely for the “Ulsters” in the Minor Boys’ 100m (2nd in 13.7s) as well as taking bronze in the shot in an 8.20m PB. Robbie Marrs was a clear winner of the high jump with 1.45m.
Andrew Hutchinson was Lisburn’s male “Athlete of the Match” at Antrim last Saturday after winning the sprint double and long jump in style – and they aren’t even his best events! He was outstanding again here, taking the district titles at 80m hurdles in 12.1s plus a superb new record in the high jump of 1.75m.
More updates of Lisburn athletes’ performances in the districts to follow as full results become available.
