With full results now available from the second in the series of the Lagan Valley AC / Edwards and Co meets, it can be seen that it was another big success in terms of turn-out overall for the host club and also in terms of City of Lisburn’s medal haul. Lisburn athletes managed 19 medals in total to surpass the total from meet one – a superb all round performance which saw PB’s, medals and excellent performances across every age-group.
In the U11 girls’ events, Olivia Savage had a superb competition in the shot, winning by over a metre with a huge PB of 6.28m while Grace Hilman took gold in the 150m in a great 22.27, exactly a second clear of her nearest rival. Erin Fisher showed she has good endurance strength too with 6th in the 600m. Ben Ritchie has obviously been taking a few tips from his big sister, taking silver in the boys’ U11 shot with 6.11m, with Connla Ward 5th. Ben was also 5th in the 600m while Lisburn had three in the top six in the 150m where Ben Gibson took bronze ahead of Connla and Ben.
The U13 events saw hurdles champion Terese Hilman take bronze out of a field of 29 athletes in the 200m, while Madison Bowyer produced a great time of 2:31 to win a tight 800m. This time would have won the boys’ race in the same age-group! The Lisburn girls excelled in the field events, where all-rounders Alix Galbraith and Sarah Woods made it a Lisburn one-two in the Long Jump, topping a field of 25 athletes! In the discus our girls filled 4 of the top 5 places with the gold medal going to Jodie Savage with a 16.52m PB ahead of Lauren Rea in 3rd who also threw a PB. Cameron Kelly added to his medal collection from the first meet with silver in the 200m while Matthew Robinson was a convincing winner of the discus.
The U15 events saw Jane Anderson win the high jump as expected with Kathryn Case who has shown good form so far this outdoor season taking silver. Kathryn later took another silver in the triple jump, making it three second places in the three jumps in this series so far. On the track Zoe Carruthers took bronze in a fast 2:28 for the 800m. There was no long jump this round so Ben Fisher turned to high jump, just missing a medal in 4th. Annie Alexander was 4th in the javelin ahead of Sophie Carke.
In the U17 events Amanda Mitchell warmed up for the schools’ championships with gold in the discus in a season’s best. Aoibhin McManus was 2nd in the 200m in 28.96m with Jessica Robinson running well for 5th. Rebecca Harvey was 6th in the 800m in 2:33. The U17 boys’ 200m was a tight affair with just three hundreths covering the first three athletes but Josh Garnham had to settle for bronze in 24.44s, although he had the consolation of a PB by almost half a second.
In the Senior events Caris Greenwood threw a great early-season PB of 33.72m to take silver in the discus and looks set to throw further before the season is out. Well done to all the athletes mentioned above.
