Athletics NI UUJ Meet 12 Feb
Tue 15 February 2011--admin
The UUJ High Performance Centre was the venue on Saturday for a well-attended Athletics NI Open meet which many City of Lisburn athletes used as a warm-up event for the forthcoming Indoor championships this weekend and next month in Magherafelt.
Jane Anderson took another slice off her 60m hurdles PB with a great 9.84s run with hopefully more to come in the Odyssey, while in the 60 metres Erin Quinn was in good form with a 8.52 run in her heat and is another who looks set to revise her PB at the weekend. In the long jump Erin recorded a solid 4.60m despite a few run-up problems and surely will go close to 5 metres before the year is out. Roseanna McGuckian showed what an asset she’ll be to the City of Lisburn U15 squad for the Young Athletes League this year with a flying 8.29s 60m PB.
In the shot James Megarity arrived straight from the rugby pitch to produce a great last round 10.35m throw for a PB with the senior implement. This placed him 2nd junior and 4th overall, one place ahead of Jonny McWhinney who threw close to his M40 PB with a 9.66m final round effort. U15 Kirsten Evans warmed up for the Odyssey with a 7.22m throw with the 2.72k shot which was an indoor PB and just 15cm shy of her overall PB.
Promising U13 all-rounders Alix Galbraith and Sarah Woods gained valuable experience of indoor competition. Alix produced an excellent 6.81m in the shot, 3.73m in the long jump and a 9.69s 60 metres. Sarah threw 5.62m, jumped 3.62m and finished with a 9.93s 60metres PB.
